Different Ways To Shop Online

Different Ways Of Online Shopping

There is no argument that online commerce allows consumers to find great online deals for almost any product that they are looking to buy. The Internet allowed for unprecedented price and service competition from which we can all benefit.

Online commerce is constantly growing even during the downturn people more and more find themselves shopping online form the comfort of their home. Not only do they shop in more comfort they also in most cases end up saving money. Although most people just look at the money saved by finding a better deal for that product you were trying to buy in reality the money saved is much more than just the difference between the price you found online and the price at the local store. The price difference is also any amount of money that you saved by doing the shopping at home as opposed to having to go to the local store. For example to go to the store you would probably have to drive your car on which every mile driven has a cost associated with it. If you are not driving a car then you will probably use some public transportation like a taxi bus or train all of which also have a cost associated with them. And the last factor sometimes forgotten is the time saved. As the old saying goes time is money and if time is money the time saved by shopping at home at any time of the day as opposed to having to go from one store to another during store opening hour is significant and can amount to a significant amount of money.

There are a few strategies for online shopping. Some people prefer to use a few well known sites and keep shopping at those sites. They assume the prices on those sites are low maybe not the lowest for each product they buy but low enough. In return they get a consistent shopping experience and save on time spent online shopping. They also enjoy some comfort and safety as buying from a well known site you have good experience with is safer than making a purchase at an unknown small sites from which you have never shopped befor.e

Some people prefer to get an immediate satisfaction when shopping. They do not use any auction web sites to optimize their cost. They also prefer to always buy new products as opposed to tapping into the second hand online market. Other consumers are experts in auctions most of them are almost addicted eBay users. They do not care to wait a week or two for a product just for the thrill of participating in the auction process and enjoying saving a bit more on the product price. They know how to use all the eBay tools that allow reviewing and tracking of seller credibility. They know how to evaluate the quality of second hand products they buy on eBay and how to minimize their risk.

The last group of consumers is known as random shoppers. They do not make many online purchases and they do not have a favorite site to shop on. Usually they start their shopping experience using their favorite search engine looking for the product and through search results getting to online stores that offer that product.

When Shopping Online Goes Wrong

Actions To Take If Shopping Online Goes Wrong

There are plenty of great gifts and services that are available online and for the most part we can purchase safely and happily with a minimum of risk. However, no matter how careful we are, or how closely we watch our transactions, there are things that can happen!
When an online shopping transaction goes wrong, there is a very good chance that you may feel angry, nervous or even frightened about what might happen to your money and to your credit. If you are in a situation like this, there are definitely actions that you need to take.

The first thing that you need to do is to figure out the nature of the complaint. When you purchase products online, there is a chance for miscommunication, just like there is in any other sales transaction. Notify the trader and give them a chance to fix the issue, the more information that you can provide to them regarding the exchange, the better off you are going to be. Give them the date that you ordered, along with the details of what you ordered and let them know what you got instead and what the reason for your complaint is. It is also important to make sure that you inform them about how you want your claim resolved. Do you want a refund, or do you want them to send another version of the product?

Keep a file of all the correspondence that you get from the company. You will find that there is certainly going to be a paper trail of the issue when you start emailing back and forth. You might want to consider putting together a diary of the incident and what day you did what. Write down the days that you contacted them, who you spoke to and any other important information that you can think of and it is important to keep track of the numbers you called as well.

If you have reached a point where you feel that the vendor is behaving inappropriately, you may wish to turn to a trade association or other regulatory body for help. If the vendor is part of any organization like this and is found to be breaking the rules of conduct, then the association can force them to comply. In many cases, these trade associations can arrange for a mediation through a third party mediator who can help you and the vendor come into accord. Also look for help from your local Citizens Advice Bureau, as this can prompt trading standards officers to investigate claims on your behalf.

If there is no satisfactory response from a trade organization, and if you feel very strongly about the matter, you may wish to go to court. It is possible to sue for small amounts through the use of small claims procedures in the county court and you do not require the services of a solicitor. Fees vary and if you win the case, your opponent will be the one to pay them. Keep in mind that even doing this may not get you your money if the vendor in question does not have the money or the means to pay.

Consider what your choices are if you have had unsatisfactory services with an online vendor. There are actions that you can take, so consider how you can best move forward.

Staying Safe When Shopping Online

Stay Safe When Shopping Online

We have all suddenly come to realise just how convenient it is to do shopping online, especially at the most important times of year such as Christmas. In fact it isn’t just gifts you can purchase online but a wide variety of other items including groceries, cars, and electronic equipment and of course insurance policies. But what should one do to ensure that one carries out secure shopping online?

In this article we offer several tips you may find useful when you are choosing to buy products or services online. There are many things people are concerned with when they are shopping online and the kinds of things that they worry about are as follows:-

1. That the item they receive is in fact not the same as what they actually ordered.
2. That their email details will actually be provided to other parties without requesting permission first.
3. Are scared that their financial or personal details will be stolen.
4. That they receive phishing emails from sources which disguise themselves and get the customer in to believing that it has been sent in fact by a trusted financial institute or retailer.

So it is important that just as you are careful when shopping in a regular store you need to protect your financial and personal details at all times. Hopefully the information that is given above will ensure that your next online shopping experience is safe and enjoyable.

Tip 1 – It is important that you purchase goods only from secure web sites and the best way of ensuring that they use encryption technology. This way the information you give to them will be scrambled in such a way that hackers cannot actually obtain it as it passes between you and the retailer. There are several ways of recognising the sites which are secure and below we look at what these are.

a. Look at the sites address at the top of the browser page. If at the beginning you notice it shows https:// this will immediately inform you that the site is secure. But be aware that this may not appear until you actually move to the sites order page.
b. Another sign to look for when determining if a site is secure or not is to look at the bottom of the web page. If there is a closed padlock then this will show you that the site is a secure one to use. However, there are other sites that use an unbroken key rather than a padlock.

Tip 2 – It is important that before you place any orders at any online stores you do some research into them beforehand. It is a good idea to place a small order with them firstly to check out how trustworthy they really are. Some things you could look for to help further ensure that the site you are considering using is reputable are as follows:-

a.That they provide both not an email address but also a physical one as well.
b.That they give details of either a number for a customer service line or order line that you can contact directly. Ring the number provided and ask a few questions to establish the legitimacy of the business further.

There are plenty of ways for you to be able to do research quickly and easily online today in to online businesses. Certainly in the US one of the best ways is by contacting the Better Business Bureau in the area where you live. Plus of course don’t be afraid to use online Yellow Pages as well.

Tip 3 – After carrying out your research you need to read through the web sites privacy and security policies as this will explain how all orders for a company are processed. Normally this will be on a separate page headed ‘Privacy Policy’ and it is here where you will discover if the retailer is intending to offer your details to other companies.

Tip 4 – Look for merchants who sell items online that are members of say a seal of approval programme. These often set guidelines for the merchants to follow with regard to privacy related practices.

Although both of these are there to help protect your privacy you may find sometimes that they don’t guarantee that any merchant will not allow this information to be given to others at a later date. Sometimes their privacy policies can change and should a business become bankrupt then the buyer of the business will also be given the information held on the businesses customer data base.

Tip 5 – When you are purchasing any items online then use one specific credit card for these purchases only. This way you are in a better position to detect any unlawful credit charges being made against it. Also use a credit card rather than a debit card as you are more open to theft from your bank account if you use a debit one. Also unlike credit cards there is no protection on your debit card if funds are taken without your consent.

Above we have offered you several tips that you may find useful when it comes to ensuring that shopping online is safe. Certainly the more you learn about secure shopping online the less likely you are going to end up being one of the thousands whose money or identity has been stolen.

Shopping And Thrift Deals

Of Shopping And Thrift Deals

If you are a huge proponent of buying items at thrift stores, make a list of items that you need to shop and check your nearest thrift stores. There are some people who makes good use of thrift stores in their daily lives. There’s a person who bought all of his plates at one, and he just scored a chic lamp for $1.50 and rewired it with his sister. That sort of good deal can give anyone a huge sense of accomplishment. Indeed, it is very fulfilling to find that ‘find of all finds’ in a shopping store.

If you are a ’shoppaholic’, definitely try to get your shopping in on a Monday or Tuesday. The majority of deliveries come in over the weekend, so you’re guaranteed to have the largest, least-picked-over selection earlier in the week!

It is good to go and visit thrift stores in college towns! Some say they’re the best! There are rich kids who get rid of great things, which you can find on sale on thrift shops. One can find an amazing antique style chaise lounge in near mint condition for only $100! Surely you would pay way more than that if you can see it somewhere else.

If you want to do your shopping online, then go ahead! A good number of Americans do at least a little shopping online. Well now, aside from online shopping discounts, there are good sites out there that will help you get free shipping. Most stores have some sort of free shipping deal going on at any given time. Take an extra effort to check the internet and save yourself some cash in turn.

Find History Of Online Shopping

The History Of Online Shopping

The last ten years have been a wild time on the Internet, especially when it comes to online shopping. The e-commerce industry has seen rapid growth, a shake out of the market due to security concerns, and finally, a rebirth thanks to new technologies and innovative ways to shop.

EBay and Amazon.com: The Early Players

While most businesses were still figuring out how to get their companies online, Amazon and eBay were enjoying success by finding new ways to look at old paradigms. EBay took the garage sale/rummage sale concept and put it online where millions of people could bid on used or overstocked items put up for sale. Amazon struck back against conventional bookstore thinking by using its infinitesimal amount of shelf space to stock practically every book in print.

While these two industry heavyweights have had their share of ups and downs throughout the years, the fact that both are still going strong is a testament to their business model and the vision of their leadership.

Online Security Issues Threaten an Industry

It is hard to imagine it now, but only several years ago, the entire online shopping industry was at a major crossroads. Hackers had begun to infiltrate thousands of websites and the term "identity theft" found its way into the mainstream media. Shoppers began to flee the web over concerns about the safety of the credit card information and the industry looked to collapse under the stress. Flash forward to 2008. Although information safety is still a primary concern, and hackers still lurk behind many corners, innovations in web encryption have helped businesses protect their online customers like never before, and the sales are back in the growth column.

Faster Connections and Technology Lead to Better Shopping Experiences

With over half of the United States now using broadband connections to surf the web, online stores are able to provide a more robust, interactive shopping experience. Customers can now use cutting-edge technology to customize their purchases online and see what the finished product will look like. E-commerce sites can now use powerful algorithms to predict shopper’s tastes and make recommendations about purchases they might like.

The Next Wave of Online Shopping Sites

Now individuals can order products from their favorite brands and stores with the click of a mouse. And new shopping sites are popping up every day that change the way we think about online shopping. One of the fastest growing business models is the deal of the day website, where alert customers can grab a low price on a limited quantity item by checking the site on a regular basis. These sites place a single item up for sale every day, and open up small number of the item at the "opening bell." It’s one of the fun, innovative ways that consumer are shopping online, and a reason why the e-commerce industry continues to grow.

Price Versus Quality When Online Shopping

Online Shopping – Price Vs. Quality

When buying clothes online, most people get exited over the low prices on various websites. But, low price isn’t everything; it needs to be compared to the quality.

The last few years the number of online stores has grown rapidly, and there is no sign of it slowing down. As with most businesses the online stores compete in every way possible, with the price as the number one method of competition.

While some stores offer clothes from well known brands, trying to lower their costs to offer them at the lowest price possible, others sell less known brands at an even lower price. For people not interested in fashion, buying the more expensive clothes may seem like throwing money away, but more often than not cheap clothing are of poor quality, making it far more expensive than first expected.

Although a higher price may indicate a better quality, this is not always the case. Many fashionable brands grow in popularity due to completely different reasons than quality, but as they grow in popularity they are forced to focus on quality as well, otherwise the negative publicity would crush them. The more people who use a certain brand, the more important quality get.

Smaller brands can’t afford to wait for them to become popular, so instead they often put a lot of time and effort into making the clothes as good as they can. This way they stand a chance of becoming popular, at least in less fashionable communities. Buying such clothes is often a good deal, although rarely a fashion statement.

The problem with find cheap clothes of high quality is the vast number of brands, and the fact that they are often virtually unheard of. If the brand isn’t to small one can often do a bit of research online to see what others think of the clothes, making the decision so much easier. There are numerous of websites dedicated to clothes without actually selling any, taking a look at any of these sites or blogs can give a good hint as to what brands to buy and what brands to stay clear of. While this isn’t fool proof in any way, at least it will give a few good pointers to make better deals online.

Similarly there are many websites dedicated only to high-end brands. Often these websites or blogs are written by people with a keen interest in fashion and clothes making them a good starting point for people longing to become more fashionable but without the interest and knowledge to know what to buy.

One thing to look out for is replicas of high end brands. The websites selling replicas are growing at a similar rate as any other online web shops, but even if you are looking for a cheaper version of a popular pair of shoes, a bag or anything else odds are you won’t get what you thought you would. Many of the replica sites are plain frauds, while others present pictures of the original with little or no resemblance to the actual product. A replica that screams fake is rarely fun to wear, no matter how cheap the price.

Choosing the Right Online Shopping Cart

Choosing the Right Online Shopping Cart
 by: Evan Stevens 7eb

1fb9

Are you a website owner or a web designer/developer?  If either applies, I would venture to say that eventually you’ll need an online shopping cart for one of your websites. In fact, almost all new websites today need some sort of ecommerce built-in, for the purpose of selling goods and services in the online marketplace.

The greatest challenge is to find the perfect ecommerce shopping cart solution for yourself and/or your client. This task can be very overwhelming, considering, if you type ’shopping cart’ into Google.com, this search alone returns over 14.4 million hits! Most of us don’t have the time to sift through more than a few pages of a search engine to find what we’re looking for.

For the last 3 months, much of my time has been devoted to researching as much shopping cart technology as I could get my hands on. In general, shopping cart software ranges in price from free to over $2000 for a single license and web hosted carts range from $5 to hundreds of dollars per month.  The studied carts cover the spectrum of all web programming languages (ASP, ASP.NET, Cold Fusion, Flash, Java, JavaScript & Perl shopping carts) and provide limitless features as a whole. The problem is that locating YOUR perfect cart with YOUR specific features can be a big task.

But no fear, just follow this guaranteed step-by-step guide to locate it:

The Top 10 Steps to Finding the Best Online Shopping Cart

Cost

How much money do you have to spend on an internet shopping cart? The nice advantage is that there are shopping carts with hundreds of features and they don’t cost you a dime.  They are generally open source products.  The only problem is that these same "free shopping carts" can take hours of installation time and be fairly difficult to configure. For a monthly fee, web hosting shopping carts are made for users with little programming experience and allows them to have an online storefront presence in no time.

Hosting vs. Software

There are two options in selecting your overall shopping cart solution. Either you get shopping cart software, download it, install it on your web server, then configure the shopping cart OR you get an online storefront (aka a hosted shopping cart) where the configuration is very basic and the required setup time is minimal. If you have some programming skills, I recommend buying a script and installing it on your own. The nice thing is that you pay a one-time fee for shopping cart software and the license is good for a lifetime. It’s approximately the same price to have a hosted solution for a year compared to most one time shopping cart license fees.

Supported Gateways

What do I mean by gateways?  Gateways give shopping carts the ability to connect and securely process credit card orders in real-time.  Not all shopping carts are created equal. Make sure that your client’s merchant account is supported by the cart you select. I have found that almost all carts support the larger online payment processing companies, such as Authorize.net, PayPal and Verisign.

Shipping Options

Will you be shipping physical products? If so, there are shopping carts that have built-in real-time shipping options through DHL, UPS And USPS. Often times, the cart gives the user the ability to view tracking orders and order status all from within your secure shopping cart web interface.  Also, there are shopping carts with options to ship digital goods as well (files, programs, pictures, music and others).

Technical Support

What kind of technical support does your shopping cart offer? If you choose to purchase a script, be sure to also subscribe to the shopping cart creator’s newsletter, so that you can stay on top of future updates to the software. Be aware that technical support is generally available on a pay-per-incident basis, as a yearly fee or in the rare case, free. Be sure to know what kind of customer support guarantee the shopping cart comes with.

Security

Please, only buy a shopping cart if it supports SSL (secure socket layer), with 128-bit encryption. As an online storefront, remember that you are responsible for the safe transfer of sensitive information (credit card and bank account information) that is processed through your store. If any of the sensitive information is accessible (stolen) from your website, you could be liable. Be sure that you’re purchasing a secure shopping cart solution.  Ask the creator’s of the shopping cart what they do specifically to protect the secure transfer of sensitive information.

Style Compatibility

Can you customize your shopping cart to look like your website?  There needs to be a seamless transition between your website and your shopping storefront or your customers might get hesitant in purchasing your products.  There should be similar colors and style layout to look professional and believable.

Extra Features

I just wanted to mention some of the other features that I have discovered, which might be a critical point in determining the shopping cart you want.

Affiliate Program – Offer your own customized affiliate program through your shopping cart software. Quickbooks Integration – Many carts allow direct integration with Quickbooks.

Newsletter & Mailing Letter Managers – The ability to stay in touch with your current customers and keep them returning to your online store.

Custom Taxing Options – Create taxable or tax-free products and have the ability to add various global tax options at checkout.

World Languages & Currencies – Shopping cart language translation and support for world currency might be a necessary feature for your cart.

Error Free

You mean shopping carts can have errors?  Of course. A private UK-based web testing firm found the following, after studying a large group of UK online shopping carts for a period of one month (24/7):"The majority of UK web sites are guilty of leaving e-consumers stranded at the checkout empty handed, once they have already spent valuable time browsing and selecting goods to purchase. This is due to erratic functionality within shopping carts, at a critical step in the online purchasing process."

"E-consumers are prevented from making purchases on UK web sites for 9 hours and 30 minutes a month on average, (115 hours a year)." "80 per cent of web sites perform inconsistently with widely varying response times, timeouts and errors – leaving consumers at best wondering what to do next and at worst unable to complete their purchase successfully. This is potentially costing e-retailers millions in lost sales from consumer frustrations." (http://www.scivisum.co.uk/report/ecommerce/)

Be sure to see what other users are saying about a shopping cart that you might be interested in purchasing.  Any shopping cart errors could cost you thousands of dollars in sales.  Get a stable and secure cart.

The following is a link containing a directory of shopping carts that are categorized according to each of the above-stated steps. Make shopping for shopping carts a breeze!
